Fug You May 25, 2005

So Cuqui introduced to me to what has become my new favourite site, and I thought I might as well try and pass on the site as well. Here it is: http://gofugyourself.typepad.com/. (Don’t just look at the pictures, read the comments too).

I watched a Zoey 101 marathon on Family Channel yesterday with Tia. I must say, I actually enjoyed it. The acting isn’t good at all, except for this one actress who plays Nicole. She’s got her character down perfect. She reminds me of a young Charlotte (Sex and the City)

I need to buy some clothes. Anybody wanna drive to Buffalo with me to get some Abercrombie shirts??? I’ll pay for gas! I need shorts too. Hey, do you think Abercrombie shorts have the same effect as the shirts?? I mean, the shorts are in the right spot………hmmmm

Buh bye for now

Okay, so Katie and I spent the weekend painting her bathroom and it was great. I must say, we did an amazing job. It’s beautiful.  We did the walls a ‘tiramisu’ brown and the ceiling a calm blue. The blue accents the brown VERY nicely, and together give a beachy spa feeling. It’s very relaxing.

We went bowling on Saturday with Terry, George, and Mus, and then we ran a 7-11 mission. (It really felt like summer when we were sitting outside 7-11 enjoying our products). Again, it was great.

Oh by the way, I dropped my summer school course: I don’t think I’ll be able to concentrate in the summer, I can barely concentrate now that it’s spring.

Here’s a picture of Cuqui with Seaver and another of Nikki. (Cuqui wouldn’t let me post the picture I really liked…meanie). Oh yah, and also a perfect magazine picture of Nikki and Saran.

Ciao

So I’m still alive, for now. What’s with this cold weather??? Is it really May 20? It’s insane. Why do I even bother…I can’t do this.

Sina's Second Law May 13, 2005

I watched National Treasure last night: BEST movie I’ve seen all year. Terry showed me some workout routines today. It was fun. We’re going to The Rock game on Saturday (it’s the finals). My first hockey game is on Sunday. I still have to buy a helmet and gloves. SHIT! I have to pay my summer tuition by tomorrow. Damn, I’ve got a lot on my mind. Not to even mention…well, we won’t mention those. Sigh.

I think it’s time to introduce a second law (hey, Newton had three). Sina’s Second Law: The extent of how much a guy is willing to do or give up for a girl he likes is directly proportional to how beautiful the girl is. So obviously, the more beautiful a girl is the more a guy is willing to do. Again, try to find a contradiction or counter-example. (Note: Keep in mind that each guy will have varying tastes. Beauty to one may not necessarily be beauty to another.)

There is a story about two friends, who were classmates in high school, talking about their jobs. One of them became a statistician and was working on population trends. He showed a reprint to his former classmate. The reprint started, as usual, with the Gaussian distribution and the statistician explained to his former classmate the meaning of the symbols for the actual population, for the average population, and so on. His classmate was a bit incredulous and was not quite sure whether the statistician was pulling his leg. "How can you know that?" was his query, "and what is this symbol here?" "Oh," said the statistician, "this is pi." "What is that?" "The ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter." "Well, now you are pushing your joke too far," said the classmate, "surely the population has nothing to do with the circumference of a circle."  [http://www.dartmouth.edu/~matc/MathDrama/reading/Wigner.html]

Summer Reading May 8, 2005

Now that I have more time on my hands, I want to read more. But this begs the question: what should I read? I could finish the second half of Huck Finn (and it is very summery), but that would mean that I’d have to reread a lot of what I’ve already read just to refresh myself of what’s happening…and that would be very annoying. So I think I’ll try something new, but I don’t know what. Anyone have any suggestions for a good (summery) book to read? Maybe I’ll read some Shakespeare…

A Problem For You May 4, 2005

My exams are finally done. Now we just sit and see the marks roll in. I’m trying to decide whether I should work this summer (if I find a job) or take summer school. Anyone have any advice? Today I solved a very difficult question that I’ve been thinking about for a while now. Here’s the question to keep your brain busy: (-1)^pi = ? Let me know if you find an answer. [For the experts: Try to find (-1)^sqrt2, or (-1)^r for any irrational r] It’s not that easy. Ask me for a hint if you want. It took me a VERY long time to find the answer. "How long?" you ask. Well, I’ve been thinking about that question for over a year now. I mean, we know: (-1)^2 = 1, (-1)^3 = -1, (-1)^(1/2) = sqrt(-1) = i (where i is imaginary). But since we can’t write irrationals as fractions, I began to wonder: what is (-1)^r (where r is irrational)? Is it 1, -1, or imaginary? In particular, I was interested in finding (-1)^sqrt2, and then maybe expanding what I found for all irrationals. So while riding the subway this morning with Jian, I gave the question to him. He had no idea either. But then it hit me! And it turns out it’s not that hard or complicated. So have fun with it.
