The sky is falling June 4, 2005

Wow, I proved (well, sort of) that sqrt(-1) = -sqrt(3). There must be something wrong with the proof, but I can’t figure it out. There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong. The only thing I’m not sure of is Euler’s identity. But that’s an identity, it has to be true (always).  Hmmmmm. What if there isn’t anything wrong?! What if sqrt(-1) = -sqrt(3)????? We’d have no need for imaginary numbers anymore….wow. That’d be insane. ABSOLUTELY INSANE. Because that would imply (squaring both sides) that -1=3 !!!!! The universe is collapsing! Crazy, just crazy. Just doesn’t make sense.

By the way, thanks to Katie for helping with summer readings.
